How deep we go
Standard grinding goes 6 to 10 inches below the surface, which is plenty for grass and garden beds. If you plan to plant a new tree in the same spot or pour a patio, tell us and we will go deeper and chase the bigger surface roots.
The grindings are a mix of wood chips and soil. We can leave them as a mound to settle, rake them out, or haul them off and backfill with topsoil.
Small gates and backyards
Our smaller grinder fits through a standard 36 inch gate, so backyard stumps are not a problem. We lay plywood over soft lawn to avoid ruts.
Before we arrive
Missouri law requires utility lines to be marked before digging. We call Missouri One Call ahead of time so gas, electric and cable lines are flagged. It helps if you mark private lines yourself, like invisible dog fences, irrigation and outdoor lighting.
Questions people ask us
Will the stump grow back?
Some species, like elm, hackberry and Bradford pear, can sprout from leftover roots. It usually stops within a season. If not, we come back.
Do you grind stumps from trees someone else cut?
Yes. A lot of our stump work is for homeowners who cut the tree themselves or had another crew do it.
