Hangers are the real danger
A hanger is a broken limb caught up in the canopy. It can sit there for days and then drop without warning when the wind picks up. If you see one over a walkway, driveway or play area, keep people clear until it is removed.
What cleanup includes
- Removing hangers and partially broken limbs
- Pruning torn branch ends back to clean cuts so the tree can seal them
- Chipping and hauling downed limbs
- Assessing split trunks to decide if the tree can be saved or cabled
- Clearing blocked driveways, alleys and fence lines
Can the tree be saved?
Losing a big limb does not always mean losing the tree. If the trunk is sound and at least half the crown is intact, many hardwoods recover well with proper pruning. We will tell you plainly when a tree is worth keeping and when it is likely to fail.
Questions people ask us
Will the city pick up storm debris?
After large storms Springfield sometimes runs brush collection or opens drop-off sites. Check the city's announcements. For big limbs and whole trees, most people find it easier to have us haul it.
